Govt steps in as Shashikant Bharat's family faces medical debt

Shashikant Bharat's battle with paralysis has taken a heavy toll on his family's finances.

Since the accident, his parents have taken multiple loans, paying steep interest, yet still could not afford the specialized care required for his cervical injury.

In a direct outreach on September 7, Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai assured that the government will intervene to arrange necessary medical interventions and financial assistance.

The chief minister's pledge includes covering diagnostic tests, facilitating surgery where required, and exploring insurance or subsidy schemes.

He also addressed a personal request, offering to arrange a posting change for Shashikant's mother, who works as a guard at the district employment office, so she can be closer to her son's treatment centre.

The family welcomed the assurance, expressing renewed hope that comprehensive treatment can now be pursued without the constant fear of debt.

State officials are expected to coordinate with hospitals and welfare departments to implement the promised support.
