Governor Urges Jharkhand Universities to Become Skill and Innovation Hubs

In a strong message to academic leaders, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar has underlined the need for higher education institutions to move beyond traditional degree distribution. Addressing the opening session of a two-day vice-chancellors' meet in Ranchi, the governor said universities must become powerful centers for skill development and innovation. He pointed out that although school education in the state has improved, the higher education sector requires significant upgrades. The low Gross Enrolment Ratio and persistent dropout issues reflect deep-rooted challenges. A large number of students continue to migrate outside the state due to lack of quality education and employment-focused curricula. Governor Gangwar stated that real success will come when students feel confident that world-class education is available within Jharkhand. He directed vice-chancellors to ensure regular academic sessions, timely exams, and prompt result publication. The implementation of the Jharkhand State Universities Act 2026 was highlighted as a key step toward transparency and excellence. The governor asked university heads to thoroughly understand and apply the new law. He also stressed the need to strengthen research, promote startups, integrate skill-based learning, and build robust industry connections. Universities, he said, must transform into engines of innovation and practical skill-building. Dr. Nitin Kulkarni, Additional Chief Secretary, reinforced the call for outcome-oriented education. He urged universities to connect research with real societal problems and encouraged faculty members to adapt to emerging technologies including artificial intelligence. Building critical thinking and analytical abilities in students remains a central goal for the state.
