Governor Patel's Directives: Universities Must Drive Innovation and Social Good

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandi Ben Patel delivered a clarion call to universities during a high-level review at Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology. Insisting they evolve beyond mere classrooms, she mandated active roles in research, startups, and societal duties to build a self-reliant India. Chaired by Patel at Jan Bhawan in Lucknow, the Friday session saw detailed presentations from faculty deans and department heads on critical areas: staffing shortages, enrollments, job placements, entrepreneurial ventures, scholarly pursuits, dormitory operations, and athletic endeavors. A strong advocate for cutting-edge research, Patel directed technical universities to tackle current challenges head-on. Plans must transform lab innovations into public assets, emphasizing sustainable energy practices and swadeshi adoption. She spotlighted drone tech developed onsite, pushing for its direct delivery to agricultural communities to bolster rural prosperity. Further, she ordered the creation and deployment of food safety testing kits. Hostel oversight drew sharp focus: maintain constant dialogue with students, enhance girls' facilities with rigorous health, sanitation, and safety protocols. Bans on external catering and drugs were non-negotiable, with pure, healthy food positioned as vital for mental and character growth. To supercharge startups, she demanded quick fixes for obstacles and robust MoU execution, in line with NEP 2020's self-sufficiency goals. Engineering programs should embrace interdisciplinary studies and community-linked topics. Universities were tasked with community engagement at child care homes and senior centers, plus hosting 'Ma-Beti Sammelans' to reinforce cultural bonds. Minister Ashish Patel praised the Governor's leadership, pledging state backing to steer universities into a new era of autonomy and impact.
