Governor Asked to Order FIRs and Arrests in Egg‑Throwing Incident

The BJP’s senior team handed a detailed memorandum to Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gahlot on Thursday, pressing for decisive action after an egg‑throwing episode targeted party legislators.

The document, delivered at the Lok Bhavan, calls for the Director General of Police and the Inspector General of Police to file non‑bailable FIRs under non‑bailable clauses and to ensure the swift arrest of the perpetrators.

It also demands an inquiry into senior police officials present at the protest site, alleging a lapse in providing adequate security to the legislators, who were under police protection at the time.

B.Y. Vijayendra, the state BJP president, accused the opposition of attempting to create law‑and‑order disturbances. He referenced past statements by the Union Health Minister about being ready to discuss the NIT issue in Parliament, suggesting the Congress was leveraging the matter for political advantage.

Opposition leader R. Ashok labeled the egg attack a pre‑planned conspiracy, asserting that police failed in their duty to protect the legislators. He warned that such incidents reflect a growing pattern of political intolerance and called for accountability at all levels.
