Governor Calls for AI, Drones, and Climate‑Smart Farming at BAU Graduation
Ranchi – During the ninth convocation of Birsa Agricultural University, Governor and Chancellor Santosh Kumar Gangwar highlighted the urgent need for technology‑driven, climate‑smart agriculture. He pointed out that Jharkhand’s plateau regions lose a significant portion of monsoon runoff, limiting irrigation and threatening crop productivity.
The Governor advocated for the adoption of artificial intelligence, drone surveillance, remote sensing, and precision agriculture, provided these tools are tailored to the realities of smallholder farmers. He warned that high‑tech solutions must translate into tangible gains such as higher income, reduced production costs and protection of soil and water resources.
Gangwar praised BAU’s ongoing work in developing resilient crop varieties, seed technologies, and farmer training modules. He urged the university to expand its research to encompass water‑conservation strategies, rain‑water harvesting, and diversified cropping systems that align with local topography and climate patterns.
The Governor also called on the graduating students to become catalysts for change, leveraging their expertise to bridge the gap between laboratories and farms. He emphasized that the nation’s economic health depends on a robust agricultural sector, and that innovation, especially among youth, is key to achieving the “Developed India@2047” vision.
In his closing remarks, he encouraged graduates to pursue agri‑entrepreneurship, food processing, horticulture, livestock and fisheries, noting the immense potential for job creation and sustainable growth in these fields.
