Government reshuffle places experienced IAS officer in charge of higher education

The Ministry of Education announced a major reshuffle on July 24, naming senior Rajasthan cadre IAS officer Naren Pal Gangwar as the new Secretary of Higher Education. The appointment arrives at a critical juncture when the credibility of the National Testing Agency is under fire after repeated allegations of paper leaks and procedural lapses in nationwide exams.

Gangwar, who previously led the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairy, will now spearhead initiatives aimed at reinforcing exam security, enhancing the transparency of admission processes, and conducting a systematic audit of the NTA’s functioning. His extensive background—spanning district administration, state secretarial roles, and policy work on solar energy and environmental regulations—positions him to tackle the multifaceted challenges facing India’s examination framework.
