Government increases BSc, Post‑Basic and MSc nursing seats in Tamil Nadu

In a strategic effort to enhance the state’s healthcare workforce, Tamil Nadu’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned an increase of 855 nursing seats in public institutions. The allocation adds 660 BSc Nursing seats, 120 Post‑Basic BSc Nursing seats and 75 MSc Nursing seats, raising the total BSc intake to 1,170.

The seats will be distributed among thirteen government colleges, including the new model nursing colleges linked to existing medical colleges. Each new college is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹40 crore, with financial backing from Dr. MGR Medical University.

The decision also aims to reduce the financial burden on students, as the annual fee for government quota BSc and Post‑Basic courses is set at ₹60,000, compared with a management‑quota fee double that amount. MSc Nursing fees follow a similar pattern, with ₹75,000 for government seats versus ₹1.25 lakh for management seats.
