Government Cites Court Remarks to Keep FIRs Alive, CJP Threatens Nationwide Demonstrations
New Delhi – The Cockeroc Janata Party (CJP) has issued a fresh warning that it will take to the streets again if the central government does not reverse its stance on FIRs filed against peaceful protestors over the exam paper‑leak unrest.
During a hearing on petitions alleging excessive force at Jantar‑Mantar and other locations, the Supreme Court directed that authorities refrain from taking punitive action against demonstrators exercising the right to peaceful assembly. The court also ordered the release of detainees with no prior criminal record, while allowing the probe of existing FIRs to continue.
According to CJP spokesperson Saurav Das, the centre had earlier publicly assured that no new FIRs would be registered and that the current cases would be withdrawn. After the court’s order, the government now claims the matter is “sub‑judice” and cites the judgment as a reason to keep FIR investigations open.
Das said the party had hoped for a written assurance by Tuesday, but none arrived. He argued that the Supreme Court’s directive does not prohibit the cancellation of FIRs and accused the administration of distorting the ruling to safeguard its political interests.
“The court’s order never bars the withdrawal of FIRs. That authority remains entirely with the government,” Das asserted. “We call on the judiciary to recognise the misuse of its directions and stop the politicisation of student movements.”
CJP reiterated its demand for blanket protection for all protestors across the country and the immediate rescission of every FIR related to the paper‑leak demonstrations. The party warned that any deviation from these demands will trigger a fresh wave of rallies in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, where it says activists are already facing harassment and legal challenges.
