Government Boosts Clean Mobility by Adding Scrapping Units to Assam's Industry Plan

Assam’s latest industrial policy now lists Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities as a recognised sector. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the step will make the dismantling of old vehicles cleaner, safer and more efficient. By providing a statutory framework, the state aims to curb the environmental hazards posed by uncontrolled dumping of decommissioned cars.

The structured scrapping network will ensure that hazardous components are handled responsibly, while metals, plastics and rubber are recovered for reuse. Officials anticipate a reduction in road‑side clutter, a drop in particulate emissions, and a boost to the green‑technology supply chain. The policy also outlines training programmes for technicians and entrepreneurs to build a skilled workforce for the emerging recycling industry.
