Virtual Band Gorillaz Chooses Guwahati as a Host City for India Tour

Gorillaz, the globally recognized virtual band, has added Guwahati to its itinerary for the first India tour, slated for 31 January 2027. The announcement came from Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who highlighted the city’s selection among a handful of Indian venues.

The band's unique format—combining animated avatars with live musicians—has earned it a massive following since its formation in the late 1990s. Founder Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett designed Gorillaz to push the boundaries of music and visual storytelling.

Sarma expressed pride in hosting the concert, noting that the event will showcase Guwahati’s capacity to stage world‑class performances. He invited fans across the nation to partake in the celebration of music, art, and technology.

Local authorities anticipate a surge in visitors, which could stimulate the tourism sector and enhance the city’s cultural credentials.
