Gorakhpur Drainage Milestone: Mosquito-Free Vision Takes Shape
Gorakhpur has taken a significant step in its long-pending drainage upgrade after the first phase of the Godhdhoiya Nala Project was completed. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the Rs 495.24 crore phase at Bichhiya on Sunday.
The event also saw foundation stones being laid for the second phase of the same project, estimated at Rs 92.72 crore. A Rs 65.99 crore road along the nala and the Rs 721.40 crore Gorakhpur Sewerage Scheme Zone A3 were also announced.
Addressing the gathering, Adityanath said the event was linked to resolving waterlogging across 17 wards. He also said several new projects were being given their foundation.
The completed first phase includes an RCC nala of roughly 7.75 kilometres, a 17.5-kilometre intercepting trunk sewer line, a 38 MLD sewage treatment plant, a 61 MLD main pumping station and 14 rebuilt bridges. These elements were inaugurated together at a total cost of around Rs 500 crore.
Sewer lines now run along both sides of the nala, which the Chief Minister said would prevent waste from entering the drain. Water will be treated before reaching Ramgarh Taal, supporting the lake's hygiene and beauty.
Adityanath said the completion of this work represented more than a single project. He added that it marked the first project aimed at eliminating mosquitoes and mafia from Gorakhpur.
The Chief Minister recalled that the Godhdhoiya Nala had once caused flooding, filth and disease in the rainy season. He said it has now been converted into a modern drainage system that will benefit lakhs of people in 17 wards and strengthen efforts to keep Ramgarh Taal clean.
