Gonda Election Results 2022: BJP Clean Sweep Across 7 Seats

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party secured every seat in Gonda district. From Mehnaun to Gaura, the party's candidates overcame their opponents across all seven constituencies, a result that stands out as the state moves toward the 2027 elections.

The Gonda Sadar seat drew the most attention. Pratik Bhushan Singh of the BJP won by 6,699 votes against Samajwadi Party candidate Suraj Singh. The final tally stood at 96,528 votes for Singh and 89,829 for his rival. Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Hammad Jaki placed third with 5,758 votes, followed by Congress's Tahir Bano with 2,701 votes.

Tarabganj and Mankapur recorded some of the largest victory margins. In Tarabganj, Prem Narayan Pandey of the BJP beat Ramabhajan Chaubey of the SP by 53,690 votes. Pandey polled 1,25,325 votes, while Chaubey received 71,635. The BSP's Lalji got 3,751 votes and Congress's Twarita Singh secured 2,684 votes.

In Mankapur, senior BJP leader Ramapati Shastri won with a lead of 42,349 votes over SP's Ramesh Chandra Gautam. Shastri received 1,05,677 votes and Gautam 63,328. BSP's Shyam Narayan obtained 6,579 votes. Development work, employment, farmers' concerns and law and order were the main issues in the race.

Karnelganj was one of the seats where the party changed its candidate. The BJP dropped sitting MLA Ajay Pratap Singh and gave the ticket to Ajay Singh, who still won the seat for the party. He defeated SP's Yogesh Pratap Singh, popularly called Yogesh Bhaiya, by 35,472 votes. Ajay Singh's tally was 1,08,109, while Yogesh Pratap Singh received 72,637. BSP's Ranjeet polled 7,764 votes, and Congress's Trilokinath Tiwari finished fourth with 3,756 votes.

Ajay Pratap Singh, known as Lalla Bhaiya, has a long electoral record in the constituency. He won five times in the last seven Assembly elections. He began his career as an independent candidate, joined the BJP before the 1991 Assembly polls and won on its ticket, and later won on a Congress ticket as well. His political influence in the area has persisted for years.

In Gaura, BJP's Prabhat Kumar Verma won by about 22,974 votes. He received roughly 73,545 votes, while SP's Sanjay Kumar got around 50,571. Congress's Ram Pratap Singh finished third with 31,589 votes, and BSP's Chaudhary Ravindra Pratap received 11,016 votes. The main contest was between the BJP and SP, and Verma's support among voters secured the party's win.

In Katra Bazar, Bawan Singh of the BJP recorded his third consecutive win, beating SP's Baijnath Dubey by roughly 18,457 votes. He had previously won in 2012 and 2017. The seat has a large Brahmin population, and Muslim, Kshatriya, Scheduled Caste and Other Backward Class voters also influence its electoral outcome.

Mehnaun completed the sweep for the BJP as Vinay Kumar defeated SP's Nandita Shukla by 23,218 votes. The constituency was created after the 2008 delimitation. The SP had won in 2012, but the BJP took the seat in 2017 and kept its hold in 2022.

The results confirm the BJP's broad support base in Gonda district during the 2022 elections.
