Gogoi Charges Modi with Shifting NEET Blame to Nehru, Calls for Education Minister’s Exit

Assam’s Congress chief and Lok Sabha representative Gourav Gogoi used Thursday’s X post to launch a direct challenge against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the central government is attempting to dodge responsibility for the controversy surrounding the NEET exam by repeatedly mentioning Jawaharlal Nehru.

Gogoi pointed out that students across the nation are demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, while the Prime Minister has responded with a promise of a “fast‑track court” to investigate the allegations. He added a sarcastic note: “Students’ demand: Resign Dharmendra Pradhan. PM’s answer: Fast‑track court. The confusion creator: Pandit Nehru.”

According to Gogoi, this pattern shows the ruling party’s strategy of shifting focus onto historic figures rather than addressing the alleged irregularities that have shaken the credibility of NEET – an exam that determines entry into medical colleges for millions of aspirants.

The comments come as student protests intensify nationwide, with claims of question‑paper leaks, tampering, and other procedural violations. Opposition parties have aligned with the student movement, asserting that the central government’s handling of the exam has been sub‑standard and that the Education Minister must step down.

While the BJP has dismissed the opposition’s allegations as politically driven, it reiterated its commitment to a transparent and impartial investigation. Party officials affirmed that once the probe is complete, any individuals found culpable will face strict legal action.

The government maintains that preserving the integrity of public examinations remains its top priority and that a thorough inquiry will clarify the facts surrounding the NEET controversy.
