Global Leaders Gather in New Delhi for BRICS Summit Focusing on South‑South Cooperation

The 18th BRICS summit, scheduled for 12‑13 September in New Delhi, will see an unprecedented assembly of more than twenty national leaders and heads of major international bodies.

Among the core BRICS leaders, China’s President Xi, Russia’s President Putin, Egypt’s President al‑Sisi, South Africa’s President Ramaphosa, Indonesia’s President Subianto, Iran’s President Ahmadinejad and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy will convene to chart a joint agenda.

Partner delegations from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and ten other nations – including Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Vietnam and Nigeria – will add depth to the discussions.

The summit will also feature senior officials from ASEAN (represented by the Philippines’ President), the African Union, the Gulf Cooperation Council, CELAC and the Eurasian Economic Union, as well as top executives of the UN, WTO, WHO, NDB and AIIB.

India’s presidency seeks to leverage this gathering to reinforce South‑South collaboration, promote trade and investment, and address shared concerns such as climate resilience, health security and sustainable development.
