In Jalgaon district, the Girana Dam—considered a lifeline for half the district—has risen to 94 percent of its storage capacity by Thursday morning. Roughly 3,000 cubic meters per second of water continues to flow into the reservoir, pushing it toward its maximum limit. On July 22, storage stood at just 40.38 percent, but heavy rains in the upper catchment have driven a 54‑percent increase in just eight days. The rising water level is providing much‑needed relief to farmers and communities in Bhadgaon, Pachora, Chalisgaon, and Jalgaon talukas that rely on the Girana project for irrigation. Should the dam approach overflow, officials may decide to release water downstream.
