GI Certification Boosts Authenticity of Ambaji’s Sacred Sweet

Ambaji Temple’s flagship offering, the Mohanthal, has been officially listed under India’s Geographical Indications registry. The certification, issued after a thorough application by the Ambaji Mata Devsthan Trust, guarantees that the sweet retains its traditional formulation and geographic origin.

During the unveiling ceremony at Chaachar Chowk, Prof. Dr. Unnat Pandit, the GI Registrar, underscored the role of GI tags in protecting cultural assets while fostering consumer confidence. District officials, including Collector Mihir Patel, were on hand to applaud the milestone.

The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) now operates a GI‑store that aggregates certified products from various states, providing a marketplace for genuine regional delicacies. This move is expected to increase demand for the Ambaji Mohanthal and protect it from imitation.

Administrative head Kaushik Modi praised the trust’s persistence in achieving the tag, noting that it reinforces the connection between the temple’s devotional practices and the culinary heritage of the area.
