Garage Owner Murder Suspect Hurt in Bakhtiyarpur Police Clash
The main accused in the killing of a garage owner in Patna was injured in a police clash in Bakhtiyarpur on Sunday morning, police said.
Saurabh Singh, who was arrested a day earlier by Ramkrishna Nagar police in the murder case, was hit by a bullet in the leg during a gunfight with officers. He was taken into custody and provided first aid, after which he was referred to a hospital in Patna for advanced treatment.
Officers had taken Singh to the Kalyan Bigha Mor area of Bakhtiyarpur to recover a weapon and identify the location where it was reportedly hidden. The trip turned violent when the accused allegedly took out the weapon and opened fire on the police team.
Police said one bullet reportedly struck near the headlight area under the bonnet of a police vehicle. Officers then fired back in self-defence, injuring the accused below the knee.
Before being sent to Patna, Singh received initial treatment at the Bakhtiyarpur Primary Health Centre. Personnel from the STF, SDPO-2 and Bakhtiyarpur police took part in the operation.
SDPO Ayush Srivastava said the accused had fired on the team while being taken to retrieve the weapon. Investigators are now examining how he was able to access a weapon while in police custody.
The murder occurred on September 26 in Bhupatipur, Ramkrishna Nagar, when armed contract killers ambushed Anjani Kumar, owner of Nandan Automobiles, as he was closing his garage. He was shot several times and later died while undergoing treatment.
