Ganesh Festival Preparations Speed Up as Authorities Enforce Sound Limits

The city of Pune is witnessing a rapid build‑up of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities, while law‑enforcement agencies tighten control over noise pollution. Additional Police Commissioner Sarang Avhad confirmed that 31 cases have been lodged against mandals and DJ operators for exceeding the legal sound thresholds during Dahi Handi. Maharashtra's noise policy divides the city into four zones—quiet, residential, commercial and industrial—with maximum limits of 40 dB in quiet zones and up to 75 dB in industrial zones. The police also warned that illegal laser light usage will be dealt with severely. Meetings with DJ proprietors and event coordinators have been conducted to ensure that all participants understand and follow the guidelines, as the city gears up for a vibrant yet compliant Ganesh festival.
