Ganesh Chaturthi Muhurat Timings and Ritual Steps for 2024

Ganesh Chaturthi 2024 is observed on 14 September, marking the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi of Bhadrapada. The auspicious period for the ceremony begins at 07:06 am on the 14th and ends at 07:44 am on the 15th. The prime muhurat for installing the Ganesha idol and conducting the puja is set between 11:02 am and 1:31 pm, according to Delhi’s almanac. Local sunrise times may cause slight adjustments in other regions.

Preparation starts with a thorough cleaning of the designated puja area. A clean cloth is spread on a raised platform, and the Ganesha statue is placed carefully. The devotee then focuses on the deity, takes a vow, and offers water, akshata, flowers, and durva grass. Traditional adornments such as roli, sindoor, and a small amount of durva are placed on the idol. Light incense sticks and a lamp, and repeat the mantra “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah.”

Modak and laddus are the preferred prasad, but seasonal fruits and other sweets can also be offered. After the offerings, recite or listen to a Ganesh story and finish with aarti. The immersion (visarjan) can be performed according to family tradition—commonly after one and a half days, or on the third, fifth, seventh, or tenth day. This year’s large‑scale visarjan aligns with Anant Chaturdashi on 25 September.
