Ganesh Chaturthi Celebrations Highlight Chinchpokli's 107-Year Legacy

The 107th edition of the Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani Ganesh Chaturthi took place on September 14, drawing crowds and notable guests, including senior members of the Adani group.

The Chinchpokli Public Festival Mandal, rooted in historic mill neighborhoods such as Parel, Girgaon and Lalbaug, continues to embody the transformative vision of Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who, in the 1890s, broadened Ganesh celebrations from private homes to citywide events.

This year’s elaborate pandal adopts a South Indian temple motif. The deity is embellished with classic icons—Garuda, conch, discus, and a sandal‑scented Tilak—mirroring the artistic language of Tirumala’s Venkateshwara.

The structural design is modeled after the Shri Venkateshwara Temple in Hyderabad and the golden temple of Bhuvanagiri, featuring soaring gopurams, illuminated columns and guardian statues of Yali and Vyala.

Beyond the spiritual observance, the Mandal operates as a social service hub, delivering health camps, blood donation initiatives, and educational programmes to its extensive network of around 5,000 members.

The presence of Pranav and Karan Adani underscored the festival’s continued relevance as a bridge between commerce, culture and community welfare in Mumbai.
