Gandhi's Politics Criticised by BJP Over Poverty Claims

New Delhi, October 30: BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, pointing to the progress made on development and poverty reduction during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. Bhandari said India has brought 46 crore people out of the poverty line, a figure he linked to findings in a World Bank report.

Bhandari said the World Bank report contains more than data on people escaping the poverty line. It also records a major fall in extreme poverty across India. He claimed that no country in the world has shown a similar decline during the 21st century and described it as a sign of India's economic advancement and inclusive development.

He further stated that there is growing global agreement that India is among the fastest-growing economies and is also ensuring that development is inclusive. Under Modi's leadership, Bhandari said, the economy is progressing and the advantages of development are reaching ordinary people.

The BJP leader said Modi continues to win public backing because his policies have brought visible change to people's lives. When a poor citizen rises above the poverty line and enjoys a better life, Bhandari said, that citizen recognises the government's efforts. This, he argued, explains the consistent public support for the Prime Minister.

Bhandari stated that the people of India chose the politics of development in 2014, 2019 and 2024, trusting Modi's vision for growth. He said he hopes the public will again support this development-driven approach in 2029.

Attacking Rahul Gandhi, Bhandari accused Congress MPs of being unable to accept the reduction in poverty and the positive change in the lives of the poor. He connected Gandhi's politics with negativity and chaos, saying he practises the politics of protest and dharna. Bhandari maintained that the country wants development, has previously prioritised it, and has rejected the politics of dharna. He asserted that the nation will not accept Gandhi's alleged chaotic politics in the future either.
