FSSAI crackdown: Rehan Healthcare’s manufacturing unit deemed unsafe

New Delhi, July 24 – The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has classified the Rehan Healthcare manufacturing facility as unsafe after uncovering multiple critical violations.

During the inspection, officials assigned a compliance score of only 12 percent, highlighting substantial gaps in hygiene, storage protocol, and overall facility management. The plant was found to be filthy, with mud and debris accumulating beneath production tanks, chaotic raw‑material storage, and a serious lack of housekeeping standards.

Investigators also noted the absence of proper storage zones, cramped production areas, deficient ventilation and lighting, structural damage across several parts of the building, an outbreak of pests, and a missing valid report for drinking‑water testing. In addition, spider webs, mould, flies, other insects and exposed food waste were discovered in the production zone, amplifying the risk of cross‑contamination.

Rehan Healthcare’s product line includes high‑risk items such as digestive syrups and multivitamin syrups, which are widely used by children and other vulnerable populations. The authority emphasized that the current state of the plant threatens public health and demanded an immediate halt to all operations.

The regulator issued a directive for the company to cease all food‑related business and manufacturing activities effective immediately. Production may only restart after the firm resolves every deficiency and receives verified compliance clearance from the appropriate authority. Any violation of the suspension order will trigger legal proceedings.
