Frontline Villages Witness Economic Growth and Security Boost

KATHUA – On Thursday, Union Territory Administrator Manoj Sinha visited Karol Krishna, a border village listed under the Vibrant Village Programme. He briefed residents on the benefits of multiple government initiatives and issued appointment letters to eager youngsters.

Addressing crowds from six strategically important villages, Sinha underscored that these border settlements are the nation’s first line of cultural identity and developmental focus, not its last. He recalled a time when the word "border" signified isolation, but under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stewardship, these areas have become central to the growth agenda.

Sinha reported that all 216 border villages in the Kathua district are now linked by motorable roads, fully electrified, and equipped with household‑level telecom and television services. He emphasized that such numbers represent more than data—they are markers of real improvement in villagers’ lives.

The administrator presented statistics showing a decline in poverty, a 50 % cut in migration to urban centers, and a 30 % surge in village income levels. Job creation has accelerated, cutting unemployment to about half its previous rate. Over 2,000 personal and community bunkers have been built to ensure safety for families living near the frontier.

Women’s contribution was highlighted as a catalyst for change. Through the National Rural Livelihood Mission, more than 1,300 self‑help groups have been established, benefiting over 12,000 families. Women are now actively involved in tailoring, embroidery, crafts and small‑scale businesses, reinforcing both household and village economies.

Sinha outlined four core commitments: connect villages to market hubs while promoting horticulture and dairy cooperatives; create youth employment in agriculture, tourism, defence‑support services and crafts; upgrade healthcare delivery via tele‑medicine connectivity; and deepen collaboration between civil administration and the armed forces to build resilient security infrastructure. He concluded that development and security are twin pillars—only a secure village can prosper, and only a prosperous village can contribute to a strong India.
