Four‑Year‑Old’s Murder Case Leads to Death Verdict in Assam District Court

The trial of Utpal Roy, accused of raping and murdering a four‑year‑old girl in the Chapar area of Golpara district, concluded with a death sentence from the Bilasipara Additional District and Sessions Court. The case, registered as FIR 179/23, invoked sections 363(A), 376, 302, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, as well as section 6 of the POCSO Act. After a thorough investigation led initially by Officer Arpana Talukdar and later by Ranjit Kakati, the prosecution presented evidence linking Roy to the abduction, sexual assault, and killing of the child. The court, after hearing both prosecution and defence, affirmed the capital punishment.
