Four thieves arrested as traffic violations crackdown yields stolen rides

During a comprehensive traffic‑enforcement blitz on August 28, the South Delhi police solved four motor‑vehicle theft cases and recovered two scooters, an auto‑rickshaw and a car. The operation, part of a special campaign initiated by the Kotla‑Mubarakpur police station, also saw the detention of four individuals, including a child identified as CCL.

Police issued 54 traffic‑violation notices and confiscated ten vehicles for offenses ranging from driving against traffic flow to riding without helmets. While stopping two riders for helmet‑less travel, officers discovered both scooters had been stolen. The suspects – 19‑year‑old Rahman Ali and a police constable – admitted to stealing the scooters for recreation and discarding them later.

A separate tip led to the capture of Sonu, also known as Rahul or Baba, 26, who was found in possession of a stolen auto‑rickshaw. Sonu, a former auto driver, has prior involvement in multiple thefts and a firearms case, which is under further investigation. The e‑FIR concerning a stolen Creta resulted in a coordinated search across Delhi and Haryana, culminating in the arrest of 45‑year‑old Sunil at Jafar Mahul Road with the vehicle.

The operation was carried out by a team comprising SI Yogesh Kumar, SI Sanjay, ASI Kailash Joshi, and senior constables, under the leadership of Inspector Prashlad Singh and supervision by ACP Somnath Paruthi.
