Four SSB Constables Killed in 2011 IED Blast Remembered in Kolkata

Kolkata, October 7 – Fifteen years after an IED blast claimed the lives of four SSB constables in Dantewada, the force marked the day with a ceremonial tribute. Head Constable Dharmeshwar Nath, Constable Dilesh Chaturoli, Constable Thazkuniyil and Constable Vivek Kumar were ambushed while returning from a successful anti‑Naxal sortie.

The memorial service at the 41st Battalion’s headquarters included the traditional turning of rifles, a two‑minute hush, and the laying of floral wreaths by senior officers such as IG Vandan Sakseena, DG Akshay Singh and DG S. Sarangi. Their statements emphasized the importance of honouring those who paid the ultimate price.

In a written note, SSB Director General Sanjay Singhal lauded the men’s bravery, citing them as a benchmark for commitment and discipline. The Ministry of Home Affairs records indicate that SSB personnel losses have continued, with 48 martyrs between 2015‑2017 and 24 between 2019‑2021.
