Former Women Congress Chief Alleges Home Intrusion and Threats by Party Official

In Amritsar, former women’s Congress district president Shivani Sharma has accused the party’s district chief Saurabh Madan Mitthu of breaking into her house and threatening her safety. Sharma, now a PPCC delegate, said Mitthu forced his way into her living room on a Sunday, shouted vulgarities, and physically shoved her while a gunman stood nearby.

She narrated that after refusing Mitthu’s demand to sit inside, a loud quarrel erupted once her husband descended the stairs. "He threatened to kill me and even shattered flower pots in the house," Sharma told reporters. The altercation, she said, reflects a deep‑seated rivalry that prompted her earlier resignation from the women’s wing leadership.

Sharma also alleged that Mitthu told her the police were "in his pocket" when she suggested documenting the event on video. She has now filed a police complaint and informed senior Congress leaders, warning that the silence of today could empower further harassment of women within the party.

The case adds another layer to the ongoing factionalism that has plagued the Punjab Congress, with senior officials expected to intervene following the FIR.
