Former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb Takes on National Party Role

Biplab Kumar Deb, who served as Tripura’s chief minister from March 2018 to May 2022, has been elevated to a senior national position within the Bharatiya Janata Party. The party’s national president announced on Monday that Deb will assume the role of National General Secretary, a key post that oversees organisational strategy across India. Alongside Deb, two other Northeast politicians—Nagaland’s Fangnon Konyak and Assam’s Mrigank Dev Barman—have been appointed as National Secretaries. The trio expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior party leaders for the confidence shown in them. Their appointments have been welcomed by regional leaders, with Tripura’s chief minister Manik Saha emphasizing Deb’s administrative experience and grassroots leadership as vital for strengthening the party’s nationwide presence.
