Former BJP National Spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala Steps Down, Continues Support for Prime Minister Modi

New Delhi, July 31 – Shahzad Poonawala, who held the post of national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, has tendered his resignation and posted the news on X. In the same update, he replaced his bio, omitting any mention of the BJP while reiterating his loyalty to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The new bio states: "Religion Islam, Culture Hindu, Ideology Indian. Writer: GST Journey. Eternal follower of PM Narendra Modi." By removing the party label, Poonawala signals a distancing from the BJP organization, though he maintains his ideological alignment with Modi’s vision for India.

Having originally been a Congress member, Poonawala left the party in 2017 after a dispute over the internal presidential race and later joined the BJP, where he was appointed national spokesperson. Over the years, he earned a reputation for combative statements in television debates and a prolific presence on social platforms, often defending the government’s policies and attacking opposition leaders.

The precise cause of his resignation is still unconfirmed, but political commentators are watching the development closely, noting that his continued endorsement of Modi may hint at future political maneuvers beyond the BJP framework.

The BJP has yet to comment formally on the resignation, while the political community continues to debate the implications of Poonawala’s departure.
