Forest Officials Rescue Injured Leopard from Tonk Liquor Shop

A leopard that entered a liquor outlet in Todaraisingh, Tonk district, on Monday morning was rescued after a prolonged ordeal lasting close to five hours. Forest volunteer Rakesh first reported the animal near the town's edge at 8:45 a.m., prompting immediate action.

The leopard attacked two men – 40‑year‑old Fateh Lal Koli standing outside the shop and 25‑year‑old shopkeeper Sanjay Gurjar inside – before being trapped by Gurjar pulling down the shop's shutter. The animal could not advance further into the crowded market.

Police established a perimeter while the forest department summoned a special rescue team from Jaipur's Jhalana base. At approximately 2 p.m., the team successfully immobilised the leopard with a single dart, allowing for its safe capture.

The rescued leopard, a five‑year‑old male, will undergo a veterinary examination before being re‑released into its native environment. The injured victims received first‑aid on site and were subsequently referred to Jaipur for advanced treatment.
