Following a distress call at about 3:15 a.m., the Maharashtra forest department dispatched a rapid response team to Pimpalasuti, Shirur taluka. The unit, accompanied by senior officials, cordoned off the area, set up a systematic search, and used camera traps and drones to track the prowling tiger. While the animal remained at large, the team recovered the child’s corpse from a nearby sugarcane field and transferred it to a rural hospital for post‑mortem examination. The department has also begun the process of providing immediate financial relief to the grieving family under state compensation rules.
