Forecast Shows Intensifying Showers from July 2, with Flood Threats in Coastal Zones
Meteorologists at the India Meteorological Department have indicated that the monsoon system moving over western India will become more vigorous from the evening of July 2. The forecast calls for a series of heavy to very heavy showers that could last until July 6, affecting Mumbai and a large part of Maharashtra.
According to Director Bikram Singh, the last day recorded solid rain across Mumbai and many of its suburbs, while monsoonal activity has remained high for the previous two days. The department said that earlier water‑logging in low‑lying parts has been largely contained, but warned that the upcoming rains could reverse that trend.
On July 3, the IMD expects the rain bands to strengthen further, with some locations likely to see extreme precipitation levels. Continuous downpours over the next few days may lead to fresh flooding, especially in coastal districts and interior valleys. Residents are advised to remain indoors during the late‑night and early‑morning periods, which are historically the most intense.
From July 4 through July 6, the department projects a steady spell of rain across the state, describing it as a critical phase for disaster management agencies and the general public.
