Authorities Warn of Floods and Landslides in Mountain Valleys

The Jammu & Kashmir weather office has issued a special advisory for the mountainous regions of the state. Between July 20 and 22, the Chenab valley, Pir Panjal range, and selected hill areas of the Kashmir division are expected to receive sudden, intense rainfall.

Such bursts can rapidly increase water levels in streams, rivers, and local channels, raising the threat of flash floods and temporary inundation in low‑lying settlements. Moreover, the saturated soil is likely to trigger landslides, rockfalls, and soil creep on vulnerable slopes.

Farmers have been asked to halt all field operations from July 20 to 23 until the weather stabilises. Travelers, transport operators, tourists, and trekkers are also advised to review their plans and avoid high‑risk zones during the alert period. Local disaster management teams are on standby to respond to any emergency arising from the forecasted conditions.
