Five‑Year Fugitive Caught: Delhi Crime Unit Stops Parole Violator In Chandigarh Area

A five‑year long pursuit ended on October 12 when Delhi’s Crime Branch seized a convicted narcotics smuggler who had ignored a parole recall. The offender, identified as Ajay Jarwal Torela, 40, was originally sentenced under the NDPS Act after police confiscated over 160 kg of marijuana during a 2011 raid in Malviya Nagar. He was granted parole in 2021 amid the COVID‑19 crisis, but did not surrender at the end of his term. Authorities say the fugitive lived a nomadic existence, constantly shifting addresses and taking up a job as an auto‑rickshaw driver to remain unnoticed. Leveraging both technical surveillance tools and a network of informants, the team led by Inspector Satish Malik, under DCP Harsh Indora’s directives, received a tip that placed the suspect near Himalaya Enclave, lane 7. Police laid an ambush, and when the suspect attempted to flee, officers pursued and restrained him. After confirming his identity at Tihar Jail, he was ordered back to prison to complete approximately two and a half years of his original sentence. The capture forms part of a focused drive against parole jumpers and repeat offenders.
