Five Lakh Social Safety for Taxi Operators Under New Bharat Taxi Initiative

Lucknow, September 23 – The Uttar Pradesh administration introduced a pioneering safety net for informal transport workers. Through the Bharat Taxi programme, owners of taxis, two‑wheelers and three‑wheelers can now register on a commission‑free platform and automatically receive a ₹5 lakh social‑security package.

The package covers health emergencies, accidental injuries and basic livelihood support, allowing drivers to focus on service quality without fear of financial ruin. The scheme also promises streamlined registration across Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Prayagraj, supported by memoranda with local airport, metro and police agencies.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath linked the transport initiative to broader economic goals, noting that a secure driver workforce will boost tourism, commerce and last‑mile connectivity. He highlighted the role of young riders during the forthcoming Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025, where rapid‑response bikes will escort pilgrims safely, preventing congestion.

In parallel, the government’s farmer‑focused Kisan Samriddhi Yojana has cut loan interest to 6%, ensuring that agricultural credit remains affordable. Both measures are part of a larger effort to revitalise cooperative banks, digital credit services and rural employment opportunities.

The dual rollout underscores the CM’s belief that strong cooperative leadership can transform India’s transport and farming sectors into engines of growth and stability.
