Amritsar Crackdown Sees Five Drug‑Arms Networks Brought Down

Amritsar’s law enforcement agency disclosed on October 13 that five distinct drug‑trafficking and illegal‑weapon supply rings have been dismantled. Ten people were arrested, and the raids yielded six pistols, 4.409 kg of heroin, 500 g of opium, cash amounting to ₹12.90 lakh, twelve functional cartridges and a reconnaissance drone.

The Director General of Police posted the update on the X platform, stating that five separate FIRs have been registered. Current inquiries focus on uncovering the origins of the contraband, the logistics of distribution, and the identification of further collaborators within the networks. The police have issued a public appeal for anonymous tips through the anti‑gangster helpline 93946‑93946.

These actions are integrated into the state’s “War Against Drugs” campaign, now marking its 590th day. The broader drive has led to 196 drug‑related arrests, seizures of 923 g of heroin, 700 g of opium, 1,001 narcotic pills, and ₹7,900 in cash, bringing the total arrests to 84,613. Additionally, 24 individuals have been directed to de‑addiction treatment and rehabilitation as part of the ongoing effort to render Punjab drug‑free.
