Fish Pose Benefits: Fix Neck Pain and Restore Flexibility

As the countdown to International Yoga Day continues, the AYUSH ministry is encouraging citizens to explore simple yet effective postures that combat the side-effects of hectic schedules. One such posture is Matsyasana, which has gained attention for its ability to release chronic tension in the upper body. Frequent device usage often leads to forward head posture, reduced spinal mobility, and eye fatigue. Matsyasana counters these issues by expanding the ribcage, stretching the neck muscles, and improving blood flow to the head. Over time, practitioners report better posture, stronger core stability, and a noticeable increase in overall flexibility. Begin by reclining on the back with arms alongside the body. Using the forearms as leverage, arch the upper back and rest the top of the head on the mat. The legs may remain extended or crossed in a lotus position. Maintain steady breathing for up to half a minute. Beyond physical relief, the pose is said to support thyroid health and promote mental calmness. Individuals with severe cervical or lumbar problems should seek medical guidance prior to practice. Expectant mothers should also exercise caution. Daily repetition of Matsyasana can serve as a practical antidote to the stiffness and imbalance that accompany modern living.
