First NBT Bhushan Award Set to Honour Iconic Lyricist Prasoon Joshi
New Delhi – The NBT Delhi team will mark a historic moment at the NBT Festival 2026 by introducing the NBT Bhushan Award, with esteemed poet‑lyricist Prasoon Joshi named as its inaugural recipient. The award recognises a sustained, multidimensional contribution to literature, cultural heritage, creative expression and public communication. The ceremony, scheduled for July 4, 2026, will see Defence Minister Rajnath Singh presenting the honour.
Joshi’s songwriting portfolio includes chart‑topping numbers from films like “Rang De Basanti,” “Taare Zameen Par,” “Bhaag Milkha Bhaag” and “Neerja,” each capturing the spirit of a generation with layers of optimism, national pride and personal introspection. Beyond cinema, his poems and essays carry a deep emotional resonance, while his advertising work is celebrated for its clarity and broad appeal.
By bridging high art and popular media, Joshi has emerged as one of India’s most impactful contemporary creators. NBT Delhi views his achievements as a source of motivation for young artists and plans to award the Bhushan distinction to other distinguished personalities who have enriched Indian society and culture.
The upcoming festival promises a vibrant showcase of literary and artistic talent, with Joshi’s award ceremony as the flagship event.
