First-Time Diwali Celebration with BSF; New 'Border Friend' Award to Start 2027
For the first time in West Bengal's history, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari joined Border Security Force personnel at the Hinglaganj camp to observe Diwali. The event featured traditional greetings, the distribution of sweets, and the lighting of lamps together with the soldiers.
The chief used the occasion to commend the unwavering efforts of BSF, Sashastra Seema Bal and state police officers tasked with protecting the India‑Bangladesh border. He announced that, beginning in 2027, the state will institute a "Seema Mitra" award to honour those who have rendered exceptional service in border protection. An independent panel will shortlist candidates each year.
Adhikari also took the opportunity to apologise for any offensive comments made by the previous government toward BSF and Central Reserve Police Force members, affirming the state's respect for all uniformed services.
Regarding the long‑pending demand for land to construct border fencing, the CM confirmed that the required acreage has now been allocated to the BSF, removing the bottlenecks that existed under the former regime. He assured citizens that any further land needs will be addressed swiftly to reinforce the nation's frontier.
