Firefighters Battle Level‑2 Inferno on 11th Floor, One Injured

Mumbai’s fire‑rescue services faced a Level‑2 emergency on the night of August 12 when a blaze broke out on the 11th floor of an 11‑storey residential tower in Vile Parle West. The fire, which began in two adjoining flats, quickly spread through wiring, an air‑conditioner, and household items, prompting the deployment of eight fire engines equipped with advanced extinguishing tools.

The operation lasted for three hours, with the flames finally subdued around 1 a.m. During the rescue effort, fire‑fighter Manoj Sonawane suffered injuries and was taken to Cooper Hospital for treatment. In total, eight people were injured; six were admitted to Nanavati Hospital while two, including the injured fire‑fighter, were moved to Cooper Hospital.

Authorities have confirmed that the fire claimed two lives – a 2.5‑year‑old child named Abir and a 23‑year‑old woman named Ankita. The remaining victims, Parth (32), Hiren (64), Yashasvi and Abhishek, are listed as stable. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigators are focusing on how the flames propagated so swiftly across the entire floor.
