Fire Safety Dispute Delays Clearance of Abhishek Banerjee’s Office

The West Bengal Fire Service Department had warned that the office of Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, located on the seventh and eighth floors of a Camac Street building, failed to meet fire‑safety standards. The notice listed six shortcomings, including non‑functional fire alarms and a reduced number of sprinklers on those floors. The department asked for a detailed written reply within 48 hours. Trinamool lawyers, led by former Advocate General Kisor Dutta, argued that only the two floors occupied by the party were singled out, while the rest of the building complied with regulations. The High Court’s Justice Krishna Rao stayed the eviction order until September 16, giving both parties more time to address the safety concerns.
