The operation was launched under the guidance of Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, IPS, IG Border Range Amritsar. Authorities have been running intensive patrols and checking campaigns to keep the area secure during the Baba Buddha Sahib Ji mela and Diwali.
A tip-off reached a special team led by Swarn Singh from Kathunangal police station. According to the source, Jarmanjot Singh, son of Harvinder Singh and a resident of Nishanka under Mattewal police station, was near Baba Filling Station in Kathunangal holding an illegal weapon and waiting for someone. The information further suggested that he was allegedly connected to the sale of illegal weapons.
Police moved to the spot without delay, surrounded the area and arrested Jarmanjot Singh. His search resulted in the recovery of an illegal pistol. A case has been registered against him under the relevant legal provisions, and he is in police custody.
Swarn Singh said the accused is being produced in court. After remand is obtained, he will be interrogated closely to establish where the weapon came from and whether more people are involved.
He stated that if any other person is found to be connected or additional illegal arms are discovered, those involved will be dealt with according to law.
