Regulators Seize Over ₹1 Million of Reactin Plus Stock in Pune

Maharashtra’s Food and Drug Administration has confiscated more than one million rupees worth of Reactin Plus tablets from Sipla Pharma’s facility in Wadki, Pune. The seizure follows an inspection that exposed unauthorised promotional statements on the packaging, such as “pain reliever” and “fever reducer,” which contravene Schedule H advertising restrictions.

The FDA ordered the company to pull the product from pharmacies nationwide. Sipla’s continued distribution of the drug despite the recall instruction led the regulator to revoke its carry‑and‑forward licence.

The agency warned that allowing over‑the‑counter promotion of prescription‑only medicines can induce unsupervised consumption, raising the danger of adverse health outcomes. Subsequent audits revealed gaps in stock‑keeping records, mismatches between physical inventory and computer logs, and incomplete documentation of purchases and sales.

Additionally, the inspection uncovered that drugs were stored on bare floors without proper pallets or racks, and expired batches were neither logged nor disposed of according to regulatory standards.

Commissioner Tukaram Munshi reiterated the department’s zero‑tolerance policy for any breach of drug safety laws, especially those concerning Schedule H medicines, and pledged strict enforcement actions.
