Fatal Road Crash in Gopeshword Sparks Outcry Over Unchecked Truck Speed

A tragic collision on the night of 15 July in Gopeshwar, Chamoli, has ignited public anger over the unchecked speed of mining trucks that dominate the region's roads. The accident involved a fast‑moving truck that smashed into the motorcycle of Mukesh Nagi, a local youth, at the Lisa Factory bypass bend.

According to police, the driver had already struck several vehicles parked along the road near Gavilo village. An attempt by law‑enforcement officers at the Patiyaldhar police post to stop the truck was thwarted when the driver broke the road barricade and sped onward, resulting in the fatal crash.

The truck driver is now in police custody, and investigators are examining the incident from all angles. The victim's family, along with residents such as Rajendra Nagi, Vineet Menthani, Dinesh Nagi and Jaideep, have gathered at the site, demanding a thorough and impartial inquiry and calling for strict enforcement against speed violations by heavy vehicles.
