Fatal Car Collision in Anantapur Sparks Murder Allegations from Victims' Relatives

Amaravati, September 16 – In the early hours of Tuesday, a car traveling near Rotorthypuram in Anantapur district collided with a hotel under construction, killing two women, Haritha (20) and Navneeta (20), and injuring another passenger. Haritha was a third‑year nursing student, while Navneeta worked as a nurse at a private health‑care facility.

The accident involved four friends: Haritha, Navneeta, Kumar, who works in the same hospital as Navneeta, and Sridhar Reddy, an insurance agent who frequently visited the hospital. After a night of socialising, the group left for Anantapur around 4 a.m. Sridhar was driving when the vehicle allegedly lost traction and struck the roadside hotel.

Emergency services declared Haritha dead at the scene. Navneeta, Sridhar and Kumar were hospitalized; Navneeta later died from her injuries.

Family members of the deceased are accusing Kumar and Sridhar of using deceptive friendliness to lure the women into the vehicle, deliberately causing the crash, and then attempting to stage it as an accident. Their doubts are heightened by the light injuries suffered by the two men.

Haritha’s mother Salma stated she had previously warned her daughter about the two men and advised her to stay away from them. Navneeta’s mother Vijaya accused the suspects of sweet‑talking her daughter into the car and now demands severe punishment for the alleged homicide.

The police have filed a case based on the families’ complaints, are reviewing CCTV footage, and are awaiting the autopsy results, which could be pivotal in confirming whether the incident was an accident or a concealed murder.
