Fast‑Track and Special Courts Amid Assam’s Legal Backlog

Assam currently operates 40 fast‑track courts and six special courts. Despite these specialised benches, the state still faces 575,541 pending cases (114,296 civil and 461,245 criminal). The ministry has introduced schemes such as 181 women’s helplines, a Sakhi One‑Stop Centre, a POCSO court, child‑friendly police hubs, the Shishu Mitra helpline, and an e‑court platform to accelerate case resolution.
