Farrukhabad Police Officer Arrested After Attempted ₹80,000 Bribe

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau's latest crackdown led to the arrest of an Assistant Sub‑Inspector stationed at Faridkot's Sadar police station.

According to the VB spokesperson, the officer, identified as Gurbakhsh Singh, was apprehended while accepting ₹80,000 from a local resident who had initially paid ₹40,000 to have a case closed. The second demand triggered the complainant to contact the VB, resulting in a covert operation that captured the illegal transaction on video.

Two government witnesses were present during the exchange, and the VB promptly lodged a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the Firuzpur police station. Investigators continue to examine the financial trail and any possible co‑conspirators.

The arrest is part of a broader anti‑corruption sweep that has already seen senior railway engineers and mining officials seized for similar offenses, highlighting the government’s zero‑tolerance policy toward bribery.
