Farmers Protest Again as State Fails to Deliver on Promised Procurement and Subsidies
A fresh wave of agitation erupted in Bhopal this week when farmers, dissatisfied with the state’s failure to honour earlier promises, staged a two‑day demonstration near the chief minister’s residence. The government had pledged to buy 60 percent of the pulse output and to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilizers. Within days, both promises proved hollow – pulse purchases stalled and fertilizer queues grew chaotic, resulting in an incident where a woman collapsed. Former chief minister Kamlanath criticised the ruling party for abandoning its commitments, stating that such actions inflame rather than soothe farmer discontent. He reminded readers of his own administration’s record, which included waiving loans for 2.7 million farmers and providing on‑spot compensation for crop damage. Kamlanath demanded that the current government immediately fulfil all outstanding promises to prevent further unrest.
