Farmers Advised to Use Smoke and Traps as Forest Officials Counter Boars, Monkeys, Bears

In direct communications with the farming community, forest officers have suggested practical deterrents. If a bear is sighted near a field, spreading chilli smoke is recommended to drive the animal away. For boars, the use of temporary fences combined with occasional fire‑crackers has shown promise.

Monkeys, which often target temple precincts and tourist spots, are being captured using humane cages. The department set a target of securing 1,300 monkeys this year and reports progress towards that goal. These on‑ground actions are intended to provide immediate relief while broader ecological solutions are being drafted.
