Family of Four Dies After Car Sinks Into Well in Telangana’s Siddipet District

A heartbreaking road incident in Telangana’s Siddipet district resulted in the death of an entire family of four when their car plunged into an open well near Appanapalli. The mishap occurred late on Wednesday night, leaving the local residents stunned.

The victims have been identified as D. Raju, aged 30, his wife Bhagy, 25, and their two children: four‑year‑old son Nihansh and two‑year‑old daughter Shanvika. All were natives of Balwantpur village in the same district.

Raju, a sand trader, was on his way back from a "dash din karm" ceremony held by a relative, a ritual performed ten days after a death. While traveling through the Appanapalli area, he lost steering control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into a shallow well situated at the roadside.

Alerted by nearby villagers, police and fire‑rescue units arrived promptly. Using a crane, rescuers lifted the car out of the well and retrieved the bodies, which were then taken to a Dubbaqa government hospital for post‑mortem analysis.

Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor. A case has been registered with the police, and a detailed investigation is now in progress.

Telangana Police Director General C.V. Anand recalled that close to 8,000 people lost their lives in road accidents throughout the state last year. He noted that the latest human‑resource reorganisation prioritises road‑safety, assigning 224 personnel to strengthen enforcement and accident‑prevention strategies.

The police will coordinate with engineering departments and other governmental agencies to map out high‑risk zones and address infrastructure deficits. A statewide road‑safety campaign is also being prepared.

Earlier this month, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy ordered the establishment of a specialized bureau for traffic management and road safety, emphasizing the need for thorough studies of the transport system and regular reviews of safety measures at two‑ to three‑month intervals.
